This is actually great. Both Buran and Suprematism show how the force of human will can be enough and not enough at the same time.


Wow, that's pretty profound. But it's true, Buran and Suprematism are both examples of hubris, of dreams reaching beyond capabilities.


I don't know about hubris. But I thought of this when I was reading Reyner Banham on the Futurists. He pointed out that the birth of the Futurists was related not to the first development of mechanical speed but the day it came within the scope of Italian artists, namely in the form of the motor car. The Buran is interesting because it signposts towards a time when artists will be able to experience escape velocity.
